Syndromic associations and Genetic anomalies

Some children are born with certain syndromes which can have ocular manifestations. Careful examination and early treatment of the systemic associated conditions is of utmost importance in such children.

Children with Down syndrome or Marfan syndrome commonly have eye associations which would need either medical or surgical intervention. The eye muscle function may also be weaker in such kids and may need glasses or exercises to improve their function.

Some of these children may also require genetic assessment and genetic counseling to know the prognosis and risk of future occurrence of similar conditions in siblings and future generations.
