Amblyopia or lazy eye

Amblyopia or lazy eye is the condition where the eye-brain connections are not developed as well as in normal children due to any condition that hampers the visual quality of either one eye or both eyes. It may be caused by refractive errors like hyperopia, myopia or astigmatism, or by squint or strabismus. Any ocular defect obstructing the visual axis can lead to amblyopia or lazy eye.

Timely intervention is necessary and early treatment is essential to improve the vision in such children. Treatment may involve removal of the cause of amblyopia, use of glasses, patching or vision therapy.
